Free Friday Lunchtime Concerts

As part of the City of Perth Winter Arts Season, the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) presents a series of lunchtime concerts in that State Library Theatre. These free performances offer something for all music fans, from Latin and funk to big band jazz and classical piano recitals.

Big Funk Band – free concert

WAAPA students are performing at the State Library Theatre this Friday, August 27, 1.00-2.00pm. This week’s feature is Big Funk Band consisting of four vocalists, a brass and a rhythm section keys and bass drums. Musical direction by Ric Eastman.

It’s a big fat sound with doo up girls and guys!

Auditioning for WAAPA, NIDA or VCA?

Are you auditioning for a 2009 place at WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts), NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Arts) or VCA (Victorian College of the Arts)? The majority of audition plays are now available on closed reserve at the second floor reference desk in the State Library. Closed reserve means you cannot borrow the plays but you can read them in the library. Please ask for the play you want at the desk. You will be asked to sign for the play. The plays are part of Prompt Copy, an excellent collection of plays and film scripts on the second floor of the library.

Fancy yourself as the next Cate Blanchett?

If you are thinking of auditioning for a drama institute eg WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts), VCA (Victorian College of the Arts) or NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Arts) the State Library has most of the plays listed for audition.  The plays are held on closed reserve on the second floor in the Music and Performing Arts Library.  The plays are not available for loan but can be read in the library.   Please ask at the enquiry desk on the second floor. 

You can join the Music and Performing Arts Library and borrow other plays and filmscripts not listed for audition from the Prompt Copy collection.  To join the library you will need proof of address eg a driver’s licence and a name and address of a contact person.  Please bring your local library card too if you have one.  Joining the Music and Performing Arts Library also means you can borrow music scores.
