Better Beginnings is a family literacy program run by the State Library of WA. Results from research conducted by Edith Cowan University were released on February 17 and among them were :
Before receiving their Better Beginnings kit (a bag with free board book and information) 14% of mothers were reading to their baby.
After receiving the kit, 85% read to their baby.
70% of parents reported that they spent more time reading and talking with their baby after receiving the kit.
28% joined their local library after receiving their kit.
