They turned my favourite book into a movie… and they ruined it!

Part of the joy of reading a truly great book is creating your own vision of the words on the page, becoming so familiar with the characters that they are like family. So it can be devastating when they get the translation to film terribly terribly wrong!

At the last Children’s Book Conference  Australian author Emily Rodda spoke about the problems involved in selling the film rights to your book – namely that you generally get no say in what the film makers do to your story! They are not obliged to keep characters, settings or even plot-lines in their adaptation!

Look out for these adaptations of kid’s books coming to a cinema near you in 2008. Hopefully they will live up to your expectations.
