Irish Census

The National Archives of Ireland has begun the roll-out of the 1901 and 1911 census data with the release of the 1911 Census of Dublin.  Accessible via their website: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/   records are indexed and can be searched by name, street,  age,  district electoral divisions, etc.  Access is free and the original record may be viewed.  This is a fantastic resource which is just the start in opening up Irish records for family historians.

  1. And just one year later, the NAI delivered another early Christmas present with the release of the 1911 census for counties Antrim, Down and Kerry: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie

The NAI say their next release will be in March and will include census records for Cork, Donegal, Wexford, Kings (Offaly) and Galway. Returns for the remaining Irish counties will follow in monthly batches until July.

Towards the end of 2009, the entire 1901 census will be released online in one fell swoop.

These developments will give Irish genealogy a terrific boost.

    Happy hunting, one and all.
