Visiting celebrities at the Orchestra in the 1950s

charliestern.jpgBetween 1950 and 1962, Western Australian Symphony Orchestra trombonist, Charles Thompson, took about fifty portraits of visiting musical celebrities who were playing with WASO.  As part of the Historical Records Rescue Consortium project, SLWA is digitalising these photographs.

You can see the ones which have already been done by entering this subject heading in our catalogue:

Photographs of Western Australian Symphony Orchestra visiting celebrities and artists

This photography is of Isaac Stern (5038B/34).

The great feature of these new records is that links are provided from the catalogue record to Grove Music Online, Australian of the Year and Australian Dictionary of Biography, giving direct access to biographical details. (However, SLWA’s subscription to Grove Music only allows access within the library building.)
