The State Library has a cow!

One of the State Library’s most unusual artworks, the Books Moove Me cow,  is now ‘live to the public’ on the Ground Floor of the Library.  She was created by members of the WA Branch of the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and is a unique way of showcasing children’s books by talented locals.

The State Library of Western Australia is celebrating Harmony Week 2008 in language, literature and images.

On 18, 19 & 20 March from 1 – 2pm there will be hour long demonstrations of the MyLanguage website in the State Library reception area. MyLanguage is a national portal developed by a partnership of State Libraries in Australia. It provides a one-stop-shop which enhances access to multilingual online information in Australia’s diverse languages – over 70 of them! Check out MyLanguage.gov.au for more details.

The State Library Bookshop will be displaying multicultural and multi-lingual pre-loved books. Fiction books and biographies in good condition will be for sale at the bargain price of $2 each.

From 26 March, the Department of Immigration will be displaying the winning entries from this year’s ‘WA Harmony Day High School Photographic and Media Competition’. High school students from across the State have submitted entries on the subject of what harmony means to them. The entries were judged by a panel of experts who are professionals in the field of multimedia, film, photography and education. The winning schools will receive a prize and individuals will receive a certificate acknowledging their participation during the launch of the exhibition on Wednesday 26 March at 4.30 pm. The best images will be displayed in the Theatre Foyer at the State Library (Francis Street entrance).

Public libraries state-wide are also holding storytelling sessions, ‘living library’ events, multicultural morning teas and cultural exchange forums. For details of dates, times and venues see www.multicultural.wa.gov.au or pop in to your local library.
