Call for Entries for an International Travel Grant

The closing date for applications is 5:00pm Tuesday 9 April 2013

 Eligible scholarship applicants include Librarians, Library Technicians and other professionals working within the public library network in Western Australia.

Employed in the public library network in Western Australia and wish to take your librarianship skills to another level? Are you passionate about sharing your knowledge with people in the library sector in WA?
A scholarship travel grant of up to $8,000 is available for a Library practitioner wishing to extend their knowledge and research Library practice overseas!

Australian Joint Copying Project (AJCP) talk at City of Vincent

Have you always wanted to know more about the Australian Joint Copying Project (AJCP) collection?

This wonderful collection includes:

• surgeon’s journals from convict and migrant ships
• applications for free passage, permission to marry, land grants etc.
• government and military appointments
• prison records
• musters
• and much, much more!

The AJCP microfilm collection, available at the State Library, is packed full of interesting information useful for family history and historical research. The original material is held in libraries and archives in the UK so is not easily accessible.

The Family History Subject Specialists from the State Library will be giving a talk on this fantastic resource at Vincent Library and Local History Centre at 2.00pm on Thursday 25 October.

Nominations are invited for the second annual Library Board of Western Australia Award for Excellence. Managers in all library sectors are encouraged to nominate innovative people or projects for the 2012 Award.

Entry forms, guidelines and selection criteria are available via the State Library of Western Australia website.

The Award recognises excellence and innovation in the library sector by any person, library or organisation in Western Australia. For the 2012 Award, the achievement must have been completed during the previous year 2011.

Prize money of $5000 will be awarded, with the winner announced during Library and Information Week 2012 (21 – 25 May).

Nominations close at 5.00pm on Friday 30 March 2012.

Library Award for Excellence announced!

The Library Board of Western Australia Award for Excellence and its accompanying prize of $5,000 was announced by Professor Matthew Allen, Chairman of the Library Board of Western Australia, at a function that conferred two new Fellows of the Library Board, Patricia Gallaher OAM and Dr Lynn Allen,  Thursday 17th of March.

“This Award is linked to the Board’s leadership role in guiding and encouraging the provision of all library services throughout the State,” said Professor Allen.

The Award recognises excellent achievement in library services by any person, library or organisation in Western Australia. It will be awarded for a particular service, event, program, piece of research or partnership rather than long and meritorious service.

Nominations will open shortly with the winner announced in Library and Information Week (23-29 May 2011).
